Originating from ancient China, stir frying is a technique that quickly cooks ingredients in a hot pan, preserving their nutrients and crunch. The Keto Beef and Vegetable Stir Fry adapts this method for the ketogenic diet. Eschewing high-carb ingredients common in traditional stir fries, this version emphasizes protein-rich beef and low-carb veggies. Enhanced with soy sauce for authentic Asian flavor without added sugars, this dish proves that keto meals can be both nutritious and delicious, offering a savory and vibrant culinary experience.

Approximate Nutritional Info: 25g fat, 8g net carbs, 28g protein

Ingredients

  • 500g beef slices (approx. 18 oz.)

  • 2 cups mixed vegetables (broccoli, bell peppers, snap peas) (approx. 480g or 17 oz.)

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce or tamari (approx. 45ml)

  • 2 tbsp sesame oil (approx. 30ml)

  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp chili flakes (optional)

Directions

  • In a wok or large skillet, heat sesame oil. Add garlic, ginger, and chili flakes. Sauté for a minute.

  • Add beef slices and cook until browned.

  • Add vegetables and stir fry until tender.

  • Pour in soy sauce or tamari and stir well. Cook for another 3-4 minutes.

Notes

  • Choose the Right Cut: Opt for tender cuts of beef like sirloin or flank steak. They cook quickly and remain juicy, perfect for stir fry.

  • Prep Ahead: Stir frying is a fast process. Having all your ingredients prepped and ready to go ensures a smooth cooking experience.

  • High Heat is Key: Ensure your pan or wok is hot before adding ingredients. This sears the beef quickly, locking in flavors and keeping veggies crisp.

  • Soy Sauce Substitute: If you're aiming for a gluten-free or soy-free keto diet, consider using coconut aminos or tamari as a soy sauce alternative.

  • Veggie Variations: Feel free to mix and match vegetables based on what's in season or your personal preferences. Broccoli, bell peppers, and snap peas are great additions.

  • Thin Slices: Slice the beef thinly against the grain. This ensures quick cooking and tender bites.

  • Stir Constantly: Keep the ingredients moving in the pan to avoid burning and ensure even cooking.

  • Fresh Herbs: Garnish with fresh herbs like cilantro or green onions for an added layer of flavor and a pop of color.

  • Pair with Cauliflower Rice: For a complete keto meal, serve the stir fry atop cauliflower rice. It's a low-carb alternative to traditional rice and absorbs the sauce beautifully.

  • Storage: If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They'll taste even better the next day as the flavors meld!
