Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (450g)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 4 keto-friendly burger buns

  • Lettuce, tomato, onion, and other desired toppings

  • 4 slices of cheese (optional)

Directions

  • Preheat grill or stovetop pan over medium-high heat.

  • Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape into patties.

  • Season both sides of each patty with salt and pepper.

  • Place the patties on the grill or in the pan and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until desired doneness is reached.

  • If using cheese, place a slice on each patty about 1 minute before they're done cooking.

  • Serve the patties on keto-friendly buns with desired toppings.

Notes

  • Perfect Patties: For even cooking, ensure your burger patties are of uniform thickness. A neat trick is to make a small indentation in the center of the patty; this prevents it from puffing up in the middle during cooking.

  • Rest Before Cooking: After shaping your patties, let them rest in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. This helps them hold together better during cooking, especially since we're skipping the breadcrumbs.

  • High Heat for Sealing: Sear your burgers on high heat to seal in the juices and then reduce the heat to cook them through. This gives a juicy interior with a delightful crust.

  • Don't Press Down: Resist the urge to press down on your burger with the spatula while it's cooking. This releases the juices and can dry out your burger.

  • Internal Temperature: For a well-done burger, aim for an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C). Adjust accordingly for medium or rare preferences.

  • Alternative Buns: Not a fan of almond flour? Try coconut flour or even portobello mushrooms as a bun substitute. For a non-keto option, whole grain buns are a healthier choice.

  • Veggie Version: For vegetarians, replace the meat patty with a grilled portobello mushroom cap or a keto-friendly veggie patty. Ensure to check carb content if purchasing store-bought veggie patties.

  • Dairy-Free: If you're catering to a dairy-free diet, skip the cheese or opt for a dairy-free cheese alternative.

  • Boost the Greens: Add arugula, spinach, or kale to your burger for an extra nutrient punch.

  • Seasoning Variations: Feel free to experiment with seasonings. Add some cayenne for a kick, or perhaps some cumin for a smoky flavor.

Remember, the key to a great keto burger is quality ingredients. Opt for grass-fed beef if possible, and always choose fresh, organic produce for toppings. The beauty of the keto burger is its versatility, so don't be afraid to get creative and make it your own!
